Campin’ Trip

June 1st, 2009

This past weekend Kaiden and Daddy went on a camping trip with Aunt Diane and Uncle Jeremy and lots of other friends. Kaiden had an absolute blast riding the ferry to and from Ocracoke Island. He ran all over the campground and played on the beach all day Saturday! We got to sleep in the same tent that Daddy and Grandpa used to camp in when Daddy was a “wee lad”.  Saturday night we had a campfire on the beach and roasted marshmallows.

Daddy was pretty busy chasing after Kaiden so we didn’t get many pictures, but one day soon we’ll have to go again!

Concerned Mommy

March 3rd, 2009

Liam had his first real fever since we have had him home and I woke up in a bit of a panic this morning. He has a cold and is a little restless. He finally started eating again this afternoon so I feel a lot better about how he’s doing. If I can just get him comfortable enough to take a nap we will both be able to get caught up on some sleep.

On a side note: Kaiden had his first day of school yesterday and when I got home from work, he started telling me all about how he was a big boy and got to ride the school bus. His teachers seem wonderful and I can’t wait to see all the progress he is going to make with a little extra attention.

I hope everyone is well. Love you all!

Picture Gallery is back!

The integration with the blog is gone, which means the nifty sidebar and pics are too… pics I can get back, but the sidebar will take some work. I’m going to leave it be for the immediate present, and maybe I’ll fix it later.

First break I could get to write…

December 4th, 2008

So alot has been going on in the past few days. We’ve barely had time to sleep, let alone anything else!

Liam came home form the hospital Sunday afternoon around 12:30pm. He is doing fine. He’s been a bit fussy about eating at night, and has lost some weight because of it, but our doctor says not to worry, once we get into a rhythm he should gain it back quickly. We’re learning quickly that practical experience trumps “idealism” any day of the week (lactation consultants have some great ideas, but their ‘utopian vision’ of how nursing should work seems a bit unrealistic). Pacifiers and bottles are in employ, and they’re a great help late at night. Liam’s feedings are getting easier (mommy is especially thankful for that!). He is a bit jaundiced, which had us worried, but Sentara sent out a light pad that he now has strapped to him. He glows in the dark now like a little glow worm ! It sounds bad, I know (I was a bit freaked out at first too) but it’s no big deal, and the pad doesn’t seem to bother Liam at all - we just have some extra cargo to haul around with him.

Kaiden is doing great these days. He is doing well at school. He’s having a little trouble sharing with others, and has gotten into a few tussles after taking toys from others. He is learning quickly though, and I think he’ll get the picture soon. He’s learning many new words, and loves going to school. He now has a FLEXA bed complete with a ladder and a slide (thanks so much to Quen’s mom for getting us that bed!). He is getting interested in Spiderman and Transformers, and loves going to school. He can almost put his coat on by himself, and he loves his Spiderman backpack. He won’t let me carry it into school for him, he insists on rolling it along with the handle. Next week should be the last week he goes to the diagnostic classroom. Unfortunately we have to wait until February to get the results of his studies, but we can definitely see the results of the classroom structure. He understands and follows directions, he says ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ regularly now, and many times without prompting. He sits at the dinner table with us and eats like a big boy now, and can help more and more with getting dressed. We are so proud of him!

The house is coming along nicely. Most of the major boxes have been unpacked and put away. My office is still ‘crated up’, but that’s not so much a problem these days. The utility room is finally functional, and the living room is coming together nicely. I’ll be working on setting up the entertainment center this weekend - Stephanie can’t wait to have the big TV running again. The fence is up and ‘dog proof’ - though there is still some trim work yet to be done (lots of thanks to everyone who helped get it vertical). My garage is cleaned and organized, but I still have a big load of stuff yet to arrive - workbench, electronics cabinet, shelving, etc. I have a plan for where it all goes, I just need to get it here. Huge thanks to Chris for helping me take care of all those little details that have been hounding me since the move.

My job is going great, I’m really enjoying the work - it’s very challenging and I’m learning more every day.

That’s about it in a nutshell, more pics will be going up soon, and updates will be posted as they happen!
